Avs snap losing streak but remain far out of playoff picture
By Bud L. Ellis
Historically, the Colorado Avalanche have been a part of the race in the Western Conference. But this race is not the one anybody wants to be a part of for sure.
Once a powerhouse in the Western Conference and a perennial contender for the Stanley Cup, the Avs will miss the Stanley Cup playoffs for the third time in five seasons this spring. And they’re hoping not to finish last in the West.
The Avs are just 1-8-1 in the month and for the season have only 62 points, six points ahead of Edmonton for last place in the Western Conference.
The Avs won their first game in March on Saturday, defeating the Oilers 3-2 to snap a brutal 10-game losing streak that dated back to a 4-3 victory at St. Louis on Feb. 22.
Colorado looks to try and build some momentum for the final days of the season Tuesday night at home against Columbus.
