Avs snap losing streak but remain far out of playoff picture

By Bud L. Ellis

Historically, the Colorado Avalanche have been a part of the race in the Western Conference. But this race is not the one anybody wants to be a part of for sure.

Once a powerhouse in the Western Conference and a perennial contender for the Stanley Cup, the Avs will miss the Stanley Cup playoffs for the third time in five seasons this spring. And they’re hoping not to finish last in the West. ( Read More…)

Avalanche signs Forsberg

The Colorado Avalance has signed veteran Peter Forsberg to a contract through the rest of the season.

Forsberg recently came out of retirement and started to practice with the Avalanche, hoping to make a comeback.

He felt as though his workouts were going well and believes he can still make a significant impact.

Forsberg hasn’t played in the NHL for three seasons, so it still might take some time before he gets back into a game. ( Read More…)

Avs part of crowded race for West playoff spots

Avalanche eliminated by Sharks in 6

The Colorado Avalanche’s season is over. After giving the top-seeded San Jose Sharks all they could handle, the No. 8 seed Avalanche were finally eliminated, falling in Game 6 at home, 5-2.

Colorado actually held a 2-1 lead early in the third period, but just minutes later San Jose scored two goals in a span of 1:29 to recapture the lead, one it would never relinquish. The Sharks scored four unanswered goals in the final stanza to put away the pesky Avs.

Marek Svatos and Brandon Yip registered goals in defeat for Colorado.

Joe Pavelski, the hero in Game 4’s overtime win for the Sharks, netted two goals in victory.
